This is a very sketchy history of ORPG software installations, documenting
installations and customization work needed for GSD AWIPS development
support.
Up through ORPG 8, the supported platform was a Sun host. We used mdorpg
for this purpose through ORPG 7, as outlined below. Beginning with ORPG 6, an
unofficial Linux version was available, which Darien built and we delivered to
Lockheed Martin for RSA use. She also built Linux ORPG 8 and we ran it on
montana to deliver data to fsld and alps, and we ran it on dylan for ConOps.
Beginning with ORPG 9, Linux is officially supported by the ROC (and this is
also the last version for Sun). ORPG 9 runs on RHEL4, and we chose to put this
on dx5-alps, which is a box we had set up for ConOps/SvcBu, but hasn't been put
into service.
Radar data come to our ORPG clone via LDM, fed by the Unidata
CONDUIT (272kB PDF) through U Maryland and GSD's ITS. We run LDM on
dx5-alps under user fxa, and the data are passed to the ORPG suite by process
read_ldm. See our RT Ops
manual for more on the configuration.
ORPG Build 5 was installed on mdorpg on 15 April 2004.
This was not a super-smooth install. Darien managed to crack most of
the tough issues, including missing/incorrect configuration files. One
problem I'll mention is that the data at first were being interpreted
as coming from kmlb. My notes mention that this was corrected by getting
the right adaptation parameters file
(/export/home/v1.13/adapt00040.KFTG.rpg.17Jul2003-23-24-50) in place.
mdorpg was updated with ORPG Build 6 on 21 Dec 04. No details are
available.
ORPG Build 6.1 patch was applied 16 Aug 05. This comprised new versions
of p_server, superob_vel, and hci.
ORPG Build 7 was installed on mdorpg on 25 Oct
05.
Darien set up ORPG Build 8 on montana in January
2006. We started using it to supply data to fsld on 7 Mar. Joe copied the
montana setup to dylan in May for ConOps support. After ConOps was over, we
put alps ingest back to montana.
We installed ORPG Build 9 on dx5-alps in July
2007, and switched fsld and alps ingest over to this version/host from
ORPG 8/montana.
We set up ORPG Build 10 on cx-alps in September
2007, to use for RSA and OB8.3 testing. Up until 4/08, we brought in simulated
data from 'NOP3' and made it look like kvbx for RSA testing. We updated to
ORPG10v1.14 (final) in 19 May, and are using krtx LDM data to masquerade as
kvbx.
On 20 May 08, we copied the Build 10 tree from cx-alps to dx5-alps,
slightly tweaked the settings for kftg, and fired it up, since NWS was
installing Build 10 on the kftg ORDA. (We had to pull a couple of executables
off the Build 10 CDs, since there are some new ones not included in the public
CODE version.)
We'd been using the OB9 versions of hireseet and hiresvil in our ORPG10
suite on cx-alps and dx5-alps. While looking into some ORPG 10 issues at
Vandenberg, we discovered that these old versions do not run in Build 10, so
we pulled the new verions of these from the CD and put them in place on 11
Sep 08 on both dx5- and cx-alps. (These are the files mentioned in the 20 May
bullet.)
dx5-alps began reporting high-temperature warnings in early May 09, then
failed 19 May. We reconfigured cx-alps to bring in kftg data and pointed fsld,
alps, and a2dp ingest there. For now, we don't have any simulated kvbx data
for RSA.
After repair of dx5-alps, we installed ORPG Build
11 in August 2009. We moved alps, a2dp, and fsld ingest back to dx5 on 1
Sep.
