WFO (Weather Forecast Office)-Advanced is a project of NOAA's Forecast Systems Laboratory to develop a modern, advanced hydrometeorological workstation for use by National Weather Service forecasters.
I've been a computer specialist for the project since October 1994 working on WFO-Advanced centerpiece, the two-dimensional display, D-2D. My responsibilities include designing and developing software for the project. I've made code for the user interface, process management, IPC library, logging, applications, and extensions.
D-2D is a full-featured and easy-to-use hydrometeorological data display system, with national and local data feeds, that enables a forecaster to see massive and amounts of data, including satellite images, radar images, computer model graphics and analyses, surface observations, and more.
If you're part of the D-2D development effort, you might want to see my collection of design documents and other information.
There's also some documentation on the new FX-Connect effort.
If you're a user or administrator of the D-2D component of WFO-Advanced, I'm starting a separate collection of help files that'll help you maintain your installation. Check it out!
At long last, we've got screen shots of D-2D! See them on the Tcl/FXA migration page!
Information about making your own screen shots is available!
Please note: Sean Kelly no longer works at FSL. We've maintained these pages as a convenience and because they contain valuable information about Sean's work, much of which is still relevant to FXA/D2D.
