In OB6, some locally created datasets will be available. In particular,
locally created and edited grids from the GFE. These grids are
irregularly produced with respect to time. Discussed in this UIWG were
accessing the GFE grids through the D2D user interface. The GFE
grids are stored in $FXA_DATA and are stored in netcdf format. This
allows the user to view using D2d with all the D2D capabilities.
Currently the GFE grids are only accessed through the Volume
Browser on the
States(s) and WFO scale:
To access the GFE data, select the following:
Sources: Grid > GFE
Fields: Sfc/2D > Precip
Note that Planes is automatically filled in with Surface.
The following points were made:
- How would the user utilize the GFE grids? WFO forecasters
indicated that the GFE grids would be viewed as they came on shift to
see what has been going on before they came on shift. In addition, GFE
grids would be useful for inter-site coordination.
- Would AWIPS see a performance hit with transferring the GFE grids
to the AWIPS database ($FXA_DATA)? Currently, it takes approximately
five seconds to transfer the data to the database. This transfer would
only happen a few times a day.
- What are the disk space requirements? These grid could
potentially take up a lot of disk space. Need to add the GFE grids to
the purger.
- GFE grids should be saved for a full seven days @ six or 12 hour
resolution.
- Need to be able to access the GFE from the Regional Scale.
