2.3 Image Colors Editor

You can use the Image Colors Editor to modify existing color tables, or create new ones and save them for future use. There are four different types of color tables: AWIPS standard color tables that come with the system as part of the baseline code and are read-only (they cannot be changed unless you save them with different names); site-localized color tables that are also read-only; office-customized color tables that are available to the entire staff and can be edited; and user-customized color tables that are saved and accessible under a specific user ID.

The menu from which to access all color tables is in the Image Properties Dialog Box, shown in Exhibit 2.3-1.

Exhibit 2.3-1. The Image Properties Dialog Box

Notice in this exhibit that the name of the image is listed above the color table. This feature is dynamic in that the labels change to reflect the image that is currently displayed in the large display pane.

The Image Colors Editor is opened four different ways:

• From the Menu bar by selecting Options, clicking on Image Properties, and then selecting Edit Color...

• From the Toolbar by selecting the Image Properties button and then selecting Edit Color...

• By clicking Mouse Button 3 on the image legend

• By pressing Mouse Button 3 over a Four-Panel Layout and selecting "Control This Image"

Exhibit 2.3-2 shows the Image Colors Editor.

Notice in Exhibit 2.3-2 that the color table name (here, IR Default) is in the title bar. Next to the color table name is the user ID in parentheses. These names are dynamic and change to reflect the image that is currently in the large display pane and the chosen user ID.
