3.2.3 The "Operate" Controls in Product Maker

The second step in creating a new product requires you to define a mathematical operation on the field(s) you have specified.

These operations are similar to those available on an ordinary calculator, as well as more complex mathematical operations. This also could include inserting constants and selecting contour intervals, as discussed in Step 1.

There are three submenus from which to choose mathematical operators, Binary Operators, Unary Operators, and Unary Functions. However, these submenus change when you set the Operator Mode.

Enter: The Enter Button is selected when you want to submit a mathematical term for calculation. If the term is accepted, it moves up one register level in the Stack. The order in which you choose products is in Reverse Polish Notation (RPN), which is discussed further in Section 3.2.6, "Product Maker Discussion." If the term is not accepted by the Product Maker, an error message appears in the Value/Status Bar.

Swap 0 1: This button exchanges the contents of r0 with the contents of r1.

Erase: The Erase Button removes the contents of r0.

Undo: The Undo Button removes only your latest Stack Register entry and restores the previous entry.

Clear: The Clear Button removes the selections made in the Product Maker.

Change Operator Mode: This pull-down menu, shown in Exhibit 3.2.3-1, located in the lower left quadrant of the Product Maker Dialog Box, has combinations of scalar and vector modes in which to operate. The chosen operator mode is visible in the menu button.

The Binary and Unary Operators and the Unary Functions change depending on the Operator Mode you choose. Refer to Table 3.2.3-1, which has all the mathematical operators for each setting of the Operator Mode.
