The AFOS Text Product Browser, opened from the AFOS Browser menu button, is shown in Exhibit 4.2.5-1.

Exhibit 4.2.5-1. The Text Browser Dialog Box

The AFOS Browser allows you to look through and choose text products by AFOS ID to be displayed in a text window. To make the selection faster and easier, products have been broken down into three parts: Node, Category, and Designator Menus. This mimics the nine-character AFOS Identifier, CCCNNNXXX. Each of these menus is described below.

Origin: An options menu that allows you to select the geographical area (Regional, East, Central, or West) of the United States or International locations whose text products you want to display.

Class: An options menu with a list of the type of text product you wish to retrieve (e.g., Public, Aviation, or Hydrological).

Node Menu (CCC): A central forecast office, listed by its AFOS Node ID, where text products are collected and stored. Press and hold Mouse Button 3, or click on the Help Button, to obtain full identification. Also included at the bottom of this list is the "WSR" identifier for all radar alphanumeric products.

Category Menu (NNN): The name of the text product. Press and hold Mouse Button 3, or click on the Help Button, to obtain full identification.

Designator Menu (XXX): This option gives the site or area for which the text product applies. Valid times are also provided to the right of each designator. Press and hold Mouse Button 3, or click on the Help Button, to obtain full identification.

Display: The prefixes used to select special groupings or versions of text products (e.g., ALL:, A:, -1:, etc.). Press and hold Mouse Button 3, or click on the Help Button, to obtain full identification.

Load and Continue: This menu button displays the selected text product and keeps the AFOS Browser open for further browsing.

Load and Close: This menu button displays the selected text product and then closes the AFOS Browser.

Close: A menu button that closes the AFOS Browser.
