4.6 Administrative Message Handling System

This section provides instructions for using the Administrative Message Handling software at sites that are connected to the AWIPS Wide Area Network (WAN).

The WAN provides the connectivity needed for AWIPS sites to exchange e-mail, data, and other types of messages. The Message Handling System (MHS) supports the transmission of all products created on the Text Workstation, including forecasts, watches, warnings, and administrative messages. The Text Display provides the user interface for creating all of these products. The following provides an explanation of how to use the Text Display to create administrative messages, send them to other sites via the WAN, and display messages received from other sites. Information is also given on how to create, send, and receive attachments.
