The IST can be enabled only after you have displayed at least one sounding from the Upper Air pull-down menu. Over the large display pane in which a single or multiple Skew-Ts are displayed, open the pop-up menu with Mouse Button 3 and select the Interactive Skew-T option. The pop-up menu has a cascading menu containing the names of the displayed sounding(s). Only one sounding can be interactive at a time, and is so indicated when its check button is on. Click on the name of the sounding you want to edit and the Legend then shows the Interactive Skew-T. Using Mouse Button 2, click on the Interactive Skew-T Legend. The word "Editable" appears in the legend and two dialog boxes open, signifying that you can now modify the sounding and/or hodograph.

Once you make the IST editable, several things happen:

• Two dialog boxes appear (you may need to rearrange these dialog boxes)

• Only the selected Skew-T remains; all other Skew-Ts are toggled off

• Raw data from the selected sounding are replotted, with vertices located at mandatory and significant data levels

You can still toggle on or load other soundings, but only one can be interactive at a time. Exhibit 6.1-1 illustrates how the IST appears when it is editable.
