The Icon Graphics Controls, shown in Exhibit 7.8-1, is an application that provides options that control the appearance of the Storm Track (STI), the Hail Probability (HI), and the Tornado Vortex Signature (TVS) products.
Exhibit 7.8-1. The Icon Graphics Controls Dialog Box
The Icon Graphics Controls Dialog Box is divided into three sections, STI, HI, and TVS, and has the following options:
STI: This section has options to adjust the Storm Track Information
* Number of storms to show - This slider bar lets you choose the number of storms (0 to 100) from the STI radar graphic product you would like to display. Zoom in or pan over the area of interest to view the changes you made. The default value is 20 storms.
* Type of track to show - This options menu allows you to choose the type of storm track that you want displayed.
* no tracks - When you select this option, only the current storm location(s) are displayed.HI: This portion of the Icon Graphics Controls Dialog Box contains options that alter the appearance of the HI radar graphic product. You can set the low and high algorithm thresholds of the Probability of Hail (POH) and the Probability of Severe Hail (POSH). When the low POH threshold values are met, the storms that met the threshold are indicated by small open triangles. When the high POH thresholds are met, the storm locations are shown as small solid triangles. Similarly, large open triangles or solid triangles are plotted for the POSH low and high thresholds, respectively.* past - When you select this option, the previous location(s) of the storm(s) are plotted with small dots.
* forecast - When you select this option, the estimated forecasted positions(s) of the storm(s) are plotted with small +?s.
* past & forecast - When you select this option, both the previous and forecasted position(s) of the storm(s) are displayed. The default track setting is to show both the past and forecasted tracks.
* Low hail probability (POH) - When the low POH threshold values are met, the storms that met the threshold are indicated by small open triangles. The default setting is 10.TVS: There is one option in this section of the Icon Graphics Controls Dialog Box* Low severe hail probability (POSH) - When the low POSH threshold values are met, the storms that met the threshold are indicated by large open triangles. The default setting is 10.
* High hail probability - When the high POH threshold values are met, the storms that met the threshold are indicated by small solid triangles. The default setting is 50.
* High severe hail probability - When the high POSH threshold values are met, the storms that met the threshold are indicated by large solid triangles. The default setting is 50.
* Show extended TVS? - This radio button lets you view (or not view) the elevated ("extended" is a typo in the dialog, to be corrected in a future build) TVS radar graphic product.NOTE: To view any changes you have made using the Icon Graphics Controls, zoom, pan, or reload the display.
