RPP Second Release - 7 November 2000

PATCH 1) Please copy "/ldad/classes/URLConUsrPW.class" to "/data/ldad/emwww/htdocs/URLConUsrPW.class".

Typically, the general public is not given access to the emergency manager's web site. Each emergency manager is given a username and password which are enabled on the server. The reason for this is that the weather forecast office does not want the general public's service requests to preempt requests from emergency managers.

The installation procedure for each website is identical except for the username/password protection.

Upgrades included in this release:

1) syncFiles.txt added and localized properly.

2) Missing static observation station files no longer require clearing the Graphics pane.

3) Authentication/Username-Password protection added and debugged on Windows 98 and Windows NT.

4) Gridded data rounded to get 4:1 extra compression reducing download times of grids by factor of 4.

5) Synchronization now always updates siteId.txt and webSiteName.txt to allow synchronization to multiple WFO's.

6) Synchronization no longer hangs on files with ContentLength = 0.

8) No longer relys on the server's ability to return the correct Date stamp on the INDEXTS.dat file in determining when new dynamic data arrived.

9) Text message expiration now uses UTC time determine that UGC code times have exceeded the expiration time.

10) US Topographical map is now restricted to be displayed only on the national scale/projection since this is the projection used to generate the image file.

11) Rough version of LDADIngestManual.html is included.

Serious consideration should be given to installing the Apache web server instead of the Netscape Fasttrack web server. If the Netscape Fasttrack web server is used, please test the Netscape Fasttrack web server with over 20 users to see if a problem exists.

Next, follow the instructions in section five of the LDAD Web Systems Managers Manual.

(Due to an error Release 6/19/00 omitted syncFiles.txt. Please download syncFiles.txt and copy it into the following directories. "/data/ldad/emwww/htdocs/syncFiles.txt" and "/data/ldad/pubwww/htdocs/syncFiles.txt". Then change "FSL" in the syncFiles.txt file to your <siteId> in both locations)

After installation is complete it is still necessary to start the triggers for the regular text products which are being disseminated.

Also please update the contact information (contact.shtml) on the main website page. Replace the telephone numbers and <siteId> with the correct values and update the links.
